Former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir is all set to become the new coach of the Indian cricket team. The 42-year-old left-handed batsman will replace Rahul Dravid, whose contract expires in June 2024. According to a report in Dainik Jagran on Sunday (June 16), Gambhir’s appointment is almost complete and he will be announced as the new head coach of India by the end of June.
According to the report, a BCCI official has confirmed the news of Gambhir’s appointment and said that the official announcement will be made at the appropriate time. Gambhir has demanded BCCI to bring his support staff. At present, Vikram Rathore is the batting coach of Team India, while Paras Mhambrey is the bowling coach. T. Dilip is part of Dravid’s support staff as Team India’s fielding coach.
Gambhir has never coached any team on a full-time basis till now. But he has been associated with the IPL as a mentor for the last three years. He was with Lucknow Super Giants from 2022 to 2023 and helped them qualify for back-to-back playoffs. Gambhir joined KKR ahead of the start of IPL 2024, and in his debut season, he led KKR to their third IPL title.
