New Zealand defeated India by 58 runs in the fourth match of the T20 World Cup 2024. Batting first in the Women’s T20 World Cup Group A match, New Zealand scored 160 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to a half-century by captain Sophie Devine. In response, the performance of the Indian batsmen was disappointing and the team could score only 102 runs after losing all the wickets in 19 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored the highest 15 runs for India. Lea Tahuhu took three wickets for New Zealand.
India does not start well
In the fourth match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, New Zealand, batting first against India, scored 160 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to a half-century by captain Sophie Devine. Devine returned unbeaten after scoring 57 runs in 36 balls, Renuka took 2, Reddy and Shobhana got 1-1 wickets for India. The Indian team’s batsmen were disappointed while chasing the target of 161 runs. The team lost wickets at regular intervals.
Kiwi’s Plan Executed
New Zealand, batting first, got off to a good start with openers Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimer. New Zealand scored 55 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. After this, Arundhati Reddy gave India the first breakthrough in the 8th over. She dismissed Suzie Bates (27). Asha Shobhana gave India the second breakthrough by dismissing Georgia Plimer (34). Amelia Karr was saved even after being run out because the umpire declared the ball dead, after which she took the second run. However, Renuka sent her to the pavilion on the very next ball. Devine and Brooke Halliday (16 runs in 12 balls) shared a 46-run partnership in just 4.2 overs, which helped New Zealand score a good score considering the pitch.
