A big accident has happened in Kerala before Diwali. More than 150 people were injured, including eight seriously, in a fireworks accident during a temple festival near Neeleshwaram in Kerala’s Kasaragod late on Monday night, news agency PTI quoted police as saying.
The injured have been taken to different hospitals in Kasaragod, Kannur and Mangaluru. It is suspected that the accident occurred when a firecracker storage near Veerakavu temple caught fire. The report said the accident occurred around midnight. Top officials of the district administration including the Collector and the District Police Chief reached the spot.
Investigation into the cause of the fire have began
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, while locals are assisting the victims and their families. Local media reported that the condition of five people admitted in Kanhangarh District Hospital is very serious. Matribhoomi said that 33 people have been admitted to the district hospital.
A firecracker fell in the explosive storage building
According to the district administration, several injured have also been admitted to hospitals in Mangaluru and the Government Medical College Hospital in Pariyaram, Kannur. According to Mathrubhumi, which cited eyewitnesses, the incident took place during the Moolamkuzhi Chamundi Theyyam festival in Nileshwar in Kerala’s Kasaragod district.
