IPL 2025: Ben Stokes’ Career in Doubt as BCCI’s New Rule May Bar Him from Playing

A total of 1,574 players from around the world have registered their names for the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction, including England’s legendary bowler James Anderson, who has not played any T20 match for nearly 10 years, but England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes’ name is not included in this list. Let us tell you that Ben Stokes has played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Rising Pune Super Giants. Now Ben Stokes may have to bear the brunt of not giving his name for the mega auction in the form that he will not be able to play in the IPL till 2027.

What does BCCI’s new rule say?

Even before the IPL 2025 mega auction, the BCCI had announced a new rule. Under this, the foreign player will have to register for the mega auction. If a player does not do so, then he will not be able to participate in the mini-auction to be held next year. This means that Ben Stokes will not be able to participate in the IPL 2025 mega auction as well as the mini-auction for IPL 2026.

Let us tell you that this new rule was brought by BCCI so that if a player is bought in the auction, but is out for any reason before the season starts. In such a situation, a ban of two years will be imposed on that player.

When will Ben Stokes be able to play IPL now?

Due to participating in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Ben Stokes will not be able to play in the IPL 2025 and 2026 seasons. His playing in IPL 2027 will also be possible only if a team buys him in the 2027 auction. If we look at Stokes’ IPL career, he has scored 920 runs in 43 matches so far. Apart from this, he has also taken 28 wickets.
