Lalit Modi left India in 2010. Allegations were raised that the former IPL chairman had left the country to avoid legal complications in a financial embezzlement case. But that claim was completely refuted by Dawood Ibrahim and his reasons for leaving India. This mafia of Mumbai threatened to kill him. He flew from India to save his life.
In a recent interview given on a podcast, Lalit Modi claimed, “I left the country due to some legal complications. The only reason behind my leaving the country was David Ibrahim. I was given death threats because I did not agree to do ‘Match Fixing. But I did not bow my head to him.” Not only this, in that interview he also said, “I was informed by the police officers that I am on Dawood’s hitlist. And they will be able to provide me security only for 12 hours. In fact, for the sake of security, my personal security requested me to use the VIP exit of the airport.”
Even claiming that the administration had cooperated in his departure, Lalit said, “DCP Himanshu Rai was present at the airport when I left India.” The former BCCI official further said, “I can return to India any day if I want. If I want, I can come to India in the future. Because I am not a legal fugitive. There is not a single case against me in any court. If you can find one single case then let me know.”
