Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced the PAN 2.0 projection on Monday. The Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday (25 November 2024) approved the implementation of PAN 2.0. After the announcement of PAN 2.0, the question in the minds of many people is whether they will now have to apply for a new PAN Card? The Union Cabinet has approved PAN 2.0 initiative worth Rs 1435 crore. This initiative will ensure that your existing PAN remains valid. What changes with PAN 2.0?
- With the PAN 2.0 project initiative, the government wants to improve the taxpayers’ experience with faster services and efficiency.
- Through this project, registration and services of taxpayers will now be easily available for quick processing.
- Apart from this, the new PAN 2.0 will act as a single source for integrated information across all systems.
- Being a paperless system, the new PAN 2.0 will offer cost-optimized infrastructure which is also eco-friendly.
- There will be more security than before with upgraded digital infrastructure for better protection.
78 crore PAN cards have been issued
Let us tell you that at present everyone in the country is using the old PAN card. Since 1972, physical PAN card is issued in the country under Section 139A. Currently, more than 78 crore PANs have been issued in the country, of which 98 percent have been issued to individuals.
