Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur will not play in the third and final ODI between India and Australia to be played in Rajkot. According to the report of Indian Express, the team management has decided to give rest to these two players. The pair will not travel to Rajkot for the third match. Both these players will join the team in Guwahati, where India will begin its ODI World Cup journey.
Shubman Gill scored a century in the second ODI against Australia in Indore, which is his sixth century overall and fifth century this year. This year, Gill has scored two centuries against New Zealand and one century each against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Australia. He also has a T20I century to his name this year. Shubhman Gill is the leading run-scorer in ODIs in 2023 with 1230 runs in 20 innings at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03.
Team management has been planning workload management for some time. This was the reason why Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested from the first two ODIs. Both the senior players will join the team in Rajkot.
Jasprit Bumrah was rested from the second ODI. BCCI tweeted, “He has gone to meet his family and the team management has given him a short break. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar joined the team as a replacement for Bumrah for the second ODI. Bumrah will join the team for the final ODI in Rajkot.”
The upcoming World Cup will be a long campaign for the Indian team which will play in nine different cities. The team management is trying to find ways to keep its players fresh ahead of the big ICC tournament.
