A shining star of the music world has fallen: Singer Pankaj Udas passes away!!

Music world has lost their brightest star today. Legendary Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas has lost his life. He was fighting a prolonged battle from a fatal illness. Pankaj ji has made a permanent place in people hurt by his sweet voice and musical tones. His death was confirmed by Udhas’s family on Monday.

This legendary Indian singer made a special place in people’s hearts with his all time young iconic songs like Chitthi Aayi Hai from Mahesh Bhatt’s 1986 crime thriller Naam. Pankaj ji has died around 11 am at the Breach Candy hospital. His last rites will be held on tomorrow. Pankaj Udhas’ daughter Nayaab has shared a statement on Instagram about his death, which read, “With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness.”

Throughout his decades-long musical career, this legendary singer has gifted us a huge number of numerous memorable tunes that will stay alive in his memory in golden letters. Pankaj Udas has started his career with a release of a ghazal album that was titled Aahat in 1980. With that he subsequently recorded many hits like Mukarar in 1981, Tarrannum in 1982, Mehfil in 1983, Pankaj Udhas Live at Royal Albert Hall in 1984, Nayaab in 1985 and Aafreen in 1986. But Chitthi aayi hai was a turning point of his life.

He did playback singing for many Hindi films after that. Albums and live concerts around the globe had brought him a huge fame as a singer. Pankaj Udhas was awarded Padma Shri in 2006. He also started a talent hunt TV show, ‘Aadab Aarz Hai‘. ‘Chandani Raat Mein’, ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhaar’, ‘Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein’, ‘Ek Taraf Uska Ghar’ and ‘Thodi Thodi Piya Karo‘ are some of  his evergreen ghazals.
