The blue light will shine in the tunnel. today on March 6, the Prime Minister is inaugurating the Howrah Moidan-Esplanade Metro route.
The Metro Tunnel is built under the Hooghly River of Kolkata. This tunnel is 16.6 kilometers long. The underwater metro will run 32 kilometers below the bottom of the Hooghly River. This metro will connect Howrah to Kolkata city. The 4.8 km long Howrah Maidan-Esplanade metro section is the first metro project in the country in which two tunnels have been built under the Hooghly. The metro will run under the river. After commencement of operations, Howrah will also become the deepest metro station in the country.
Special features of the Underwater Metro Tunnel:
1. The metro train will cover the distance of 520 meters inside the Hooghly River in just 45 seconds.
2. This metro has an automatic train operation system, that is, as soon as the motorman presses the button, the train will automatically move to the next station.
3. The maximum speed will be 80 km per hour.
4. In case of emergency, passengers will also be able to communicate with the motorman through the Talk to Driver unit.
5. There will also be CCTV cameras to monitor each coach. Each coach will have high-class facilities.
6. It will take six minutes to go from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade.
7. Of the total route of 16 km, 10.8 km is underground. This also includes the lower part of the river.
8. The underwater metro will pass 13 meters below the foothills of the Hooghly, a tributary of the Ganga. Both the tunnels have been built parallel.
9. It has been calculated that approximately 10 lakh passengers will travel in this metro by the year 2035.
