Indian Captain Rohit Sharma smashes fastest fifty in his Test career to put India on front foot

Indian captain Rohit Sharma led the team from the front. He scored his third consecutive fifty-plus in the ongoing tour of the West Indies, his fastest half-century in Test cricket.

Rohit Sharma breached the fifty in just 35 balls. Mohammad Siraj led the Indian bowlers with 5 wickets in the first session of the fourth day.

Rohit combined with Jaiswal for a quick 98-run opening stands off 71 balls as India added to their first-innings lead of 183 runs. The opening stand was second behind Marcus Trescothick and Michael Vaughan (10) in run-rate (8.28).

Captain Rohit made a big impression on the scoring charts of the ongoing Test series in his opening match with a century in the first Test in Dominica. This was his second Test century away from home.

Earlier, on 4 days, Mohammad Siraj registered his second Test ‘5 wicket haul’. The first since his heroics in the 2021 Gabba Test. Debutant Mukesh Kumar took a couple of wickets for India. So did Ravindra Jadeja, whose long-time spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin also managed another wicket.

At the end of the fourth day, West Indies lost 2 wickets and scored only 76 runs. They need to score 289 runs to win this test. On the other hand, India needs to pick up 8 more wickets. Otherwise, the match will be a draw.
