New York City has been shaken by an earthquake on Friday. In richter scale, the earthquake was of 4.8 magnitude, an epicenter also happened in neighboring New Jersey state. The report is based on the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake’s epicenter was near the Whitehouse Station of New Jersey, and it happened just after 10:20 a.m. at a depth of 4.7 kilometers (2.9 miles), the USGS said. No reports of casualties have been found yet. People has been reporting feeling tremors from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts. New York City Police Department has said that they had not received any reports of damages till now.
Woman named Charita Walcott, who is a 38-year-old resident in the Bronx borough of New York, has shared her experience. She has said that the earthquake felt “like a violent rumble that lasted about 30 seconds or so. It was kind of like being in a drum circle, that vibration,” she said. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) notified the airlines to hold the flights for New York City airports until noon because of the earthquake. Some flights bound for New York got diverted to other airports too.”Air traffic operations are resuming as quickly as possible,” the FAA said.
