The recently released web series ‘IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack’ on Netflix has been mired in controversy. There has been a lot of uproar over the story of this series and some of the scenes shown. After the Hindu code names of Pakistani Muslims, now news agency ANI has filed a case against the makers of this Netflix series and demanded the removal of 4 episodes of the series because the makers have used the content and footage of ANI without permission. ANI’s lawyer informed Reuters about this matter on Monday.
The makers of ‘IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack’ have presented the incident of the Kandahar plane hijack of Indian history in the series in 1999, which has been mired in controversy since its release last month. News agency ANI’s lawyer Siddhant Kumar said that the makers of the series have used the trademark of ANI. He said that the series is being criticized and their trademark is also being defamed. ANI wants those episodes of the series to be removed in which the news agency’s content has been used. He said that the Delhi High Court has agreed to hear the case and has also sought a response from Netflix. ANI has said in its petition that ‘IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack’ has used footage of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, General Pervez Musharraf and terrorist Masood, among others, without permission.
According to a Bar & Bench report, news agency ANI has filed a copyright and trademark suit against Netflix and the makers for using the agency’s content in the series ‘IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack’. Following the legal battle, the Delhi High Court has issued notices to makers of Matchbox Shots, Benaras Mediaworks, and Netflix to file their replies to ANI’s plea within two days. The case will be heard on Friday, September 13.
