Recently Suhana Khan praised Alia Bhatt for repeating her wedding outfit at an awards ceremony. In a promotional event for the film, The Archies, the Shahrukh daughter spoke about the youth’s role in environmental protection. Suhana gave reference to Alia Bhatt for promoting sustainable fashion.
Suhana Khan has stood out amongst TheArchies, not just for being the daughter of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan. But also for her articulate poise throughout press appearances. Her style has been appreciated so far, now it’s her thoughts on sustainability are going viral for all the right reasons. Suhana Khan was asked about her thoughts on protecting the environment. She pointed out that the fashion icon plays a great role in the ecosystem of environmental consciousness.
Suhana said, “Recently, Alia Bhatt wore her wedding saree again to receive her national award. As somebody with a platform who has an influence, I thought that was incredible with a much-needed message. She did that and she took a stand towards sustainability while advocating for that. If Alia Bhatt can re-wear her wedding saree then we can also repeat an outfit for a party, we don’t need to buy a new outfit. We don’t realize how much waste is involved in making new garments. It impacts our bio-diversity and environment, so it’s very important.”
Alia had said about her outfit repeating, “Whenever a big event or big moment is coming up, you start preparing for it. I instinctively felt like, I’m going to re-wear my wedding saree’. The saree was ideated and done beautifully by Sabyasachi Mukherjee but it was a lot of me, white and gold combination and certain symbols. It was the garment I felt most myself in. And it was a really special moment for a different reason. A special outfit can be worn for a special occasion more than once.”
For fashionistas especially, across the world, repeating outfits is a long-time loved celebrity style move. Cate Blanchett, Tiffany Haddish, Jane Fonda, and Meghan Markle have all re-worn their red carpet ensembles more than once. Alia Bhatt also re-watched her ivory and gold Sabyasachi wedding saree when she received her national award. Kate Middleton is celebrated as the queen of sustainable style.
Reacting to Suhana’s comments, someone wrote in the comment section, “Re-wearing a saree that costs millions is sustainability for them. Good!”
“Repeating clothes is sustainability, I contributed to biodiversity and the environment all my life and many folds until the clothes color fade or worn out,” added another user.
One more commented, “She’s talking about the richest here, that’s probably 1% of society.”
