Many people expressed their anger on social media platforms too but this time two food delivery companies, Zomato and McDonald’s, have to pay a big price for a mistake!!
Online food ordering and delivery app Zomato and the restaurant partner McDonald’s was charged a penalty of Rs 1 lakh by the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, tht said,
“The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum (II) Jodhpur has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1 lakh for violation of Consumer Protection Act, 2019 on Zomato and McDonalds, the restaurant partner whose food was delivered through it, and awarded Rs 5,000 as cost of litigation.”
Wrong order made Zomato Broke!!
The order was delivered through Zomato, but the customer realised they had received non-vegetarian items in place of vegetarian items ordered. Zomato on Friday released a statement regarding an order issued by the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum (II) Jodhpur. According to the statement, the order was an alleged erroneous delivery of non-vegetarian food items instead of vegetarian food items. Zomato and McDonald’s have been jointly fined Rs 1 lakh for delivering non-vegetarian items to a customer who ordered vegetarian food. The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum in Jodhpur has directed Zomato and McDonald’s to pay Rs 1 lakh to the consumer who received the incorrect food order. Meanwhile, The consumer has also been awarded Rs 5,000 as cost of litigation. Both the monetary penalty and cost of litigation are to be borne jointly by Zomato and McDonald’s.
Zomato has said it will appeal against the District Commission’s order. The food delivery platform, Zomato has argued that it is “merely a facilitator for the sale of food” and cannot be held responsible for any wrong delivery of order or order mismatch.
