Zomato has launched a pure vegetarian fleet. This will deliver orders from the vegetarian restaurants to your doorstep. But many people have expressed concerns about this. Among many other things, people fear, this may foster discrimination among the workers. After the concerns of this concept about encouraging discrimination on the grounds of caste and religion, Zomato decided to cancel the idea of dressing their newly-launched “pure veg fleet” in green uniforms.
Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal posted on social media platform X that the company will now go ahead with a completely separate delivery fleet for their upcoming “pure veg mode” but the both of the regular and the “pure veg fleet” will be dressed in the same red tshirt only. He also explained that the intention behind separating the fleets was to prevent the smell of spilt food from a rider’s previous orders from carrying over to a subsequent vegetarian meal. It is also notable that the separate “pure veg fleet” will only deliver from “pure veg” restaurants which will now appear on the “pure veg mode” of the platform’s app.
“While we are going to continue to have a fleet for vegetarians, we have decided to remove the on-ground segregation of this fleet on the ground using the colour green. All our riders – both our regular fleet, and our fleet for vegetarians, will wear the colour red,” Zomato’s CEO Deepinder Goyal has tweeted this morning. “This will ensure that our red uniform delivery partners are not incorrectly associated with non-veg food, and blocked by any RWAs or societies during any special days… our rider’s physical safety is of paramount importance to us,” he also added.
Zomato CEO explained has expressed that the “pure veg” service will strictly serve a dietary preference, irrespective of a person’s religion or caste. “We understand our social responsibility due to this change, and we will not back down from solving it when the need arises. Please note that this Pure Veg Mode, or the Pure Veg Fleet doesn’t serve or alienate any religious, or political preference,” he had said.
