After losing all the matches of the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, now Afghanistan has announced a 16-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. The captaincy of Afghanistan is in the hands of Hashmatullah Shahidi. While players like Gulbadin Naib and Karim Janat have returned to the team. Asia Cup 2023 is to be played in ODI format from 30 August. In which the first match will be between the host Pakistan and Nepal. Now only the Sri Lankan team is yet to be announced in the 6 teams participating in the Asia Cup. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal have already announced their teams.
Afghanistan in group of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh
Afghanistan has been placed in Group B of Asia Cup 2023 along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Afghanistan has to play both their matches in Pakistan instead of Sri Lanka. Afghanistan’s first match will be against Bangladesh in the group stage on September 3 in Lahore. While after this the second match is also to be played by Afghanistan against Sri Lanka in Lahore on 5th September. After these two matches, if the Afghanistan team makes a place in the Super-4, then they will be able to travel further in the tournament.
