Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been appointed the mentor of the Afghanistan cricket team for the ODI World Cup 2023. Afghanistan Cricket Board announced this on Monday. The performance of the Afghanistan team in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups was very disappointing, after which the board has taken this decision.
The Afghanistan cricket team is currently in India to play the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The Afghanistan team will start its World Cup campaign on October 7 against Bangladesh in Dharamsala.
Afghanistan cricket team had performed very disappointingly in the last two World Cups. The Afghan team played 9 matches in the 2019 ODI World Cup and lost all its matches. Whereas in the 2015 ODI World Cup, Afghanistan played a total of 6 matches and out of them they lost 5 matches and won only one match.
Keeping this in view, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to appoint Ajay Jadeja as the mentor of the Afghanistan team for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Ajay Jadeja played the 1996 ODI World Cup for India, where he made an important contribution to India’s victory by playing a stormy inning of 45 runs in 25 balls against Pakistan in the quarter-finals. This means that Jadeja’s experience of playing in the World Cup will be useful for Afghanistan. Ajay Jadeja played 15 tests and 196 ODIs for India.
