Amelia Kerr’s Run Out Causes Controversy, Indian Captain Harmanpreet Kaur Argues with Umpire

There has been a lot of uproar over the run out of Amelia Kerr during the fourth match of the T20 World Cup being played between India and New Zealand. However, the umpires maintained their decision after a long conversation with Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur and coach Amol Majumdar and declared Kerr not out. The umpires believed that they had given the ball dead, after which both the New Zealand batsmen made an incomplete attempt to take a run. Ashwin has questioned the runout by tweeting.

India’s star spinner Ashwin believes that the umpires were right in their place and the batsmen took the second run after the ball was given a dead ball. He said this

This incident happened in the 15th over of New Zealand’s innings, due to which the match was also stopped for a long time. During the fourth match of the T20 World Cup, on the first ball of the 15th over of New Zealand’s innings, Amelia Kerr took a run by playing a shot towards long off. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur caught the ball and started running towards the non-striker with the ball in her hand. Seeing Harmanpreet Kaur doing this, Sophie Devine called Kar for the second run, however, in the meantime, the umpire started handing over the cap to Deepti Sharma after the completion of the first run, which usually means that the over is over. New Zealand’s Sophie ran for the second run but Amelia Kar was run out at the striker’s end. She started walking towards the pavilion without waiting for the umpire’s decision.

But during this time the umpire asked her to stop, after which she was called back to the crease after some time because the umpire said that he had called the ball dead before the second run, due to which she could not be run out. However, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was not satisfied with this decision of the umpires. India’s head coach Amol Majumdar was also seen talking to the umpire after reaching near the boundary line and he was sure that Kar was run out. Due to this controversy, the game was stopped for some time but in the end, the umpire gave the decision in favor of New Zealand.
