There is an uproar on social media over the controversial dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal on the fifth day of the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The fall of Jaiswal proved to be the last nail in the coffin of the Indian batting attack and Australia won by 184 runs to level the five-Test Border Gavaskar Trophy at 1-1.
After the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma came to answer the questions of the journalists. Here, while talking about the controversial decision of the third umpire, he said that such decisions always seem to go against the Indian camp. Rohit Sharma said, ‘Look, I don’t really know what to make of it because the technology didn’t show anything. Often in such close matters we are the ones who suffer. To the naked eye it appeared that no edge was applied. As I said, we should not focus too much on this. I think we’ve been a little unlucky.’
Actually, on Monday, the fifth and last day of the match, when India had lost seven wickets, Jaiswal tried to hit a hook shot on the short ball of Pat Cummins. The umpire turned down the strong appeal. Later in DRS, the third umpire overturned the field umpire’s decision and converted not out into out. However, there was no concrete evidence anywhere in the replays that the ball touched the outer edge of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s gloves or bat.
