Bangladesh made a great start to their campaign by defeating Afghanistan by 6 wickets on Saturday in the third match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Bangladesh achieved the target of 157 runs for victory by losing 4 wickets in 34.4 overs. For Bangladesh, Nazmul Shanto scored the highest 59 runs and Mahedi Hasan scored 57 runs. Both of them made the victory easy for Bangladesh by making a partnership of 97 runs for the third wicket.
After losing the toss and playing first, Afghanistan was all out for 156 runs in 37.2 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored the highest 47 runs for Afghanistan, while for Bangladesh, captain Shakib and Mahedi Hasan took 3 wickets each and Shoriful Islam took 2 wickets. The Afghanistan team had started well with an opening partnership of 47 runs, but after two consecutive blows from Shakib, it could not recover and lost its last 6 wickets by adding just 44 runs.
In today’s World Cup match, the batsmen of the Afghanistan team made a good start with the bat but collected only 156 runs for 10 wickets in 37.2 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a maximum of 47 runs for the Afghan team. Apart from opener Ibrahim Zadran 22, Rahmat Shah 18, Hashmatullah Shahidi 18, and Azmatullah Omarzai 22, the rest of the batsmen failed to top two-digit scores. On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan and Mehdi Hasan Miraj took 3 wickets each for the Bangladesh team. Shariful Islam took 2 wickets and Taskin and Mustafiz took 1 wicket each.
In response, Tanjid Hasan lost his wicket first when he came to bat. He returned to the pavilion after scoring 5 runs off 13 balls. Liton Das was clean bowled by making 13 off 18 balls. Moreover, Mehdi Hasan Miraj returned to the pavilion by making 57 runs from 73 balls, he was calm and not out for 59 runs from 83 balls and ensured victory for Bangladesh.
