The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a notification a few days ago regarding the search for the next head coach of the Indian cricket team. The tenure of the current head coach of Team India, Rahul Dravid, will end with the T20 World Cup 2024, after which this position will be vacant. In this regard, BCCI has already started the search for the next head coach, in which the name of former Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir is also included, who is considered one of the favorite candidates of BCCI.
Gautam Gambhir is currently playing the role of mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the 17th season of IPL. According to the report of ESPN Cricinfo, Gambhir was approached by BCCI regarding this position, further talks with him will be held after the completion of the IPL season. Applicants have to submit their applications by May 27 for the notification issued by BCCI regarding the position of Head Coach of the Indian team. Dravid had already informed BCCI that he does not want to extend his tenure in the position of head coach after the T20 World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir, a part of the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup winning team, has not yet played the role of coach for any team in domestic and international cricket. However, he has been the head of the coaching staff of Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. Gambhir played the role of mentor for the LSG team in the IPL seasons in the years 2022 and 2023 in which the team reached the playoffs in both seasons. He is playing this role for KKR in the 17th season of IPL and the team has secured its place in the playoffs and is also in the first position in the points table.
