In an exciting IPL 2025 showdown on April 5, Delhi Capitals (DC) clinched a well-deserved victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Despite a strong start by CSK, it was DC’s all-round performance that ultimately prevailed, with their bowlers holding their nerve in the chase and guiding their team to an important win.
DC 183/6(20)
CSK 158/5(20)
DC got off to a solid start after being asked to bat first. Openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw laid a strong foundation, with both finding the boundary early. Warner’s 52 off 35 balls and Shaw’s 43 off 27 balls helped them get off to a flying start. Captain Rishabh Pant took charge in the middle overs, playing an aggressive knock of 51 from 32 balls. Contributions from Mitchell Marsh and Tristan Stubbs down the order ensured DC reached a competitive total of 191/5 in their 20 overs. The total was enough to put pressure on CSK, who now had to chase down the target in the humid Chennai condition.
Chasing 192, CSK’s innings got off to a rocky start, with both their openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra, departing early. Ajinkya Rahane steadied the ship with a solid 45 off 30 balls, but the required run rate kept climbing. MS Dhoni tried to anchor the chase with a quick-fire 37 off 16 balls, including two fours and three sixes, but the wickets kept tumbling. DC’s bowlers, led by their spinners, bowled with great discipline, not allowing CSK’s batsmen to form partnerships. In the end, CSK finished at 171/6, 20 runs short of the target, handing DC a well-earned victory.
