Gautam Gambhir Declares End of Suryakumar Yadav’s ODI Career

The Indian cricket team has left for the Sri Lanka tour. First, a 3-match T20 series will be played under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav. After this, there will be a 3-match ODI series, which is going to be very important in terms of the Champions Trophy. The surprising thing is that Surya’s name is not included in this series.

He has important responsibilities as captain only in a limited format. Due to this people had this question in their mind whether Suryakumar Yadav’s ODI career is over. So now by answering this question in the press conference, Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar have given a 440-volt shock to SKY fans.

Surya’s ODI career is over!

Suryakumar Yadav is known for his dangerous batting in the T20 format. Once he settles down at the crease, there is no corner of the stadium left where he does not hit the ball. But, his performance in ODIs has not been at the level that has been expected.

Perhaps this was the big reason that after the T20 World Cup ended, he got a chance in T20 on the Sri Lanka tour but was dropped from the ODI series. The Champions Trophy is to be played in 2025, so the matter of his exclusion from ODIs before this important tournament indicates that he will not be a part of this mega event.

Now this has also become clear from the recent statement of Gautam Gambhir and Atij Agarkar. They have almost confirmed the end of his ODI career.

Surya will play only T20 – Ajit Agarkar

Before leaving for the Sri Lanka tour, Gautam Gambhir, who became the head coach on July 22, faced the questions of the media for the first time in a press conference with selector Ajit Agarkar. During this, he also openly answered questions ranging from many big changes in Team India to the players being in and out of the Lankan series.

When Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar were asked why Suryakumar Yadav was not selected in the ODI series, they replied, “We have not discussed Surya in ODIs. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have returned. Both played in the World Cup in 2023 and performed brilliantly. Now Rishabh Pant has also come in the ODI series. So right now Surya will play only in T20Is.”

For this reason, Surya will not get a chance in ODIs now.

Although Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir have not clarified whether Suryakumar Yadav will get a chance in the future or not, from this statement, it can be guessed that now SKY may not be seen playing in the ODI format. The big reason behind this is that there is no shortage of players in Team India, who are waiting for a chance.

Apart from this, the second biggest reason can also be said to be that Surya has not been able to prove himself in this format yet. He also got a good chance in the ODI World Cup 2023 and he flopped on important occasions. In such a situation, perhaps now the selectors are not seeing him in this format in the future.
