Gautam Gambhir has suffered a big setback before the Lok Sabha elections. Let us tell you that the BJP did not give Gautam Gambhir a ticket in the Lok Sabha elections. Due to his poor performance as an MP, the Bharatiya Janata Party canceled his ticket. After the ticket was issued, Gautam Gambhir was informed about this, and he decided to resign from politics.
India TV’s Political Editor Devendra Parashar said that Gautam Gambhir had been informed that his ticket had been canceled. Even after being an MP for five years, no BJP leader was satisfied with his name, from which it can be estimated how poor his performance as an MP would have been. The party had already decided that his ticket was to be canceled and the same happened.
Gautam Gambhir has also confirmed that he will not contest the elections by posting on X(formerly Twitter). After the ticket was canceled, Gautam Gambhir said that he did not want to contest the elections and that now he should be released, but due to his failure as an MP, his ticket was canceled. He has written, “I have requested Hon’ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble HM Amit Shah ji for allowing me to serve the people. Jai Hind!”
After five years of performing the role of MP, Gambhir decided to retire from political life. In fact, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, cricketer Gautam Gambhir contested on the Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. BJP made him its candidate in the elections from East Delhi Lok Sabha seat. After the elections, Gautam Gambhir also won this seat. He defeated Congress candidate Arvinder Singh Lovely by more than 3 lakh 91 thousand votes. Let us also tell you that assembly constituencies like Gandhi Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara, Patparganj, Laxminagar, Kondli, Trilokpuri, Okhla and Jangpura also come under East Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
India’s most awaited cricket tournament IPL(Indian Premier League) is going to start next month. Gambhir is presently serving as the team mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for IPL 2024.
He will also collaborate with head coach Chandrakant Pandit. During Gambhir’s tenure, KKR secured IPL victories in 2012 and 2014. Gambhir has said that he wants to leave his political career to focus only on Cricket. With the upcoming season of IPL, he does not want to shift his focus from the field.
On the other hand, doubts have arisen whether Gambhir wanted to withdraw on his own, or he had an inkling that he might not be given the ticket and informed in advance that he did not want to be in the Lok Sabha fray. Because, after the seat agreement between AAP and Congress in Delhi, BJP has also changed the equation of candidate selection.
Either way, this Indian cricketer has decided to officially quit politics and end the journey here.
