Just before the departure of Team India on India’s tour of Sri Lanka, newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar answered the questions of the media. During this, questions were raised about former captain Virat Kohli and current captain Rohit Sharma playing the ODI World Cup 2027. Gautam Gambhir replied to this in a very interesting manner. He made everyone happy by giving just two lines of answer. He also gave a message for fitness.
Gautam Gambhir said- Rohit and Virat still have a lot of cricket left. If they remain fit, it is expected that they will also win the 2027 World Cup; But right now there is the Champions Trophy next year. He also answered regarding the workload management of both the players. He said- I have said earlier also that workload management is important for a bowler like Jasprit (Bumrah). He is a rare bowler anyone would want.
He further said- If you are a batsman who is batting well, then you can play all formats. Rohit and Virat have now retired from T20 International, so they will play two formats from now on. It is expected that he will be available for most of the matches. It is noteworthy that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were not going to be a part of the team on the Sri Lanka tour, but they had to be available as soon as Gambhir became the head coach.
Actually, Gambhir wanted these two senior players of the team to be available for the Sri Lanka tour. On this, captain Rohit Sharma first made himself available and then Virat Kohli said yes to play. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested in both the formats.
