New Zealand defeated India by 113 runs in the second Test and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series. This is the first time in the last 12 years that India has lost a series on its soil. Rohit Sharma, responding to the criticism of losing the second consecutive match and losing the series, said that when we are performing well consistently, this happens in one or two series.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma said in the press conference after the match, “We have lost only two matches. We have won many matches in India, where batsmen have played well on bad pitches, why are we not focusing on that? This is the first time we have collapsed. It happens once in 12 years. If we had been collapsing for 12 years, we would not have won anything. In India, we are expected to win everywhere. We have made this a habit. It is not your fault, but we are the ones who have kept ourselves to the best standards.”
He further said, ”This has happened in the last two Test matches, we have won 18 consecutive series at home, which means we have done many things right. We have performed brilliantly in the last few years. So, I will not talk much about this and will not say that we have made a lot of mistakes. I think in 2-3 innings we did not perform well with the bat, but it happens when you perform well consistently for so long, then you lose.”
