Big news has come about the Champions Trophy to be held in 2025 (ICC Champions Trophy 2025). Amid the ongoing confusion in the media and social media, a statement by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has come to the fore, in which he has almost accepted the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy.
PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi spoke to the media after the India and Pakistan match in the 2024 Under 19 Asia Cup in Dubai on Saturday. During this, he was seen talking openly about the Champions Trophy.
During this, when Mohsin Naqvi was asked whether the hybrid model would be adopted, he said that whatever decision was made would be for the betterment of cricket. What a PCB source in Karachi told me was also confirmed by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi in Dubai a few hours later. The tournament is to be held in February-March, and India has refused to go to Pakistan citing security concerns.
What did Naqvi say about the Champions Trophy?
Naqvi spoke to reporters after the Under-19 Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan ended in Dubai. During this, he said, “I do not want to comment much on this, as it can worsen things. We have told our point of view to the ICC, and Indians have also put forward their point of view. The effort is to ensure that everyone benefits. Cricket should win, this is most important, but with respect for everyone. We will do what is best for cricket. Whatever formula we adopt, it will be on equal terms. Pakistan’s pride is most important. We have to ensure that cricket wins, but Pakistan’s pride also remains intact.”
PCB took a U-turn
Let us tell you that PCB had earlier threatened to boycott the tournament, but now it seems to be softening. PCB had said that if it was not given full hosting rights and India’s demand for a neutral venue was accepted, then it would boycott the tournament. When PCB chief Naqvi was asked in Dubai whether Pakistan has now agreed to this arrangement, Naqvi replied, “Let’s see what happens. My effort is to ensure that there is no one-sided arrangement. It should not happen that we go to India and they do not come to our country. The idea is to settle this on equal terms once and for all.”
