Recently, Ricky Ponting’s contract with Delhi Capitals has ended. As a coach, Ponting was unable to get the IPL title for Delhi Capitals, which he regrets. Now once again Ponting has given his opinion about coaching in IPL. Ponting has admitted that he can play the role of coach in IPL again. Talking with ICC Review, the former Australian captain has given his opinion.
The former Australian captain said about returning to IPL as a coach, “I would love to coach a franchise in IPL again. I have had a great time every year, whether it was in the early days as a player or a few years spent as the head coach in Mumbai. I played seven seasons in Delhi, which unfortunately did not work out the way I wanted and certainly the way the franchise wanted. I think my going there was an attempt to achieve something for the team, but it did not happen.”
Ponting hopes that Delhi will adopt a different approach while selecting their next coach, the former Australian captain also explained his reasons behind leaving the Delhi coaching position. Ponting said, “The franchise will probably appoint a local legend for this position. The Delhi franchise is looking for a coach who can give them a little more time during the off-season, I just could not do that as I have other things to do.”
Ricky Ponting feels that the Delhi team is now looking to add an Indian coach to their team. Ponting further said, “But I am grateful for the time that I spent there, met some great people, worked with some great people, and worked with some great players over the years. So I wish them all the best but as I said there may be some opportunities for me in the next few months and I would love to coach in the IPL again next season. Maybe I will be associated with the IPL again.”
