India pacer Arundhati Reddy has been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 match against Pakistan. Reddy has been found guilty of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Reddy admitted her offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandre Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
Arundhati Reddy was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to using abusive language, actions, or gestures, or provoking an aggressive reaction from a batsman, following the dismissal of a batsman during an International Match.
The incident took place in the final over of Pakistan’s innings when Reddy gestured towards the pavilion after dismissing Nida Dar.
In addition to the reprimand, one demerit point has been added to Reddy’s disciplinary record as this was her first offense in 24 months.
The minimum penalty for a Level 1 violation is an official reprimand, the maximum penalty is 50 percent of the player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
Reddy took three wickets for just 19 runs in the match against Pakistan, he was awarded the Player of the Match award for this excellent performance. India defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets in this match.
After winning the toss and batting first, Pakistan’s team could only put 105 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Team India chased this score with 7 balls and 6 wickets remaining. Shafali Verma scored the highest 32 runs for India, while Jemima Rodrigues scored 23 and captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 29 runs. Team India’s next match is against Asian champion Sri Lanka on October 9.
