Before the end of the World Cup, the International Cricket Council ICC has made a big decision. ICC has suspended the Sri Lanka Cricket Board with immediate effect.
The ICC said in a recent statement that “The ICC Board met today and decided that Sri Lanka Cricket is in breach of its obligations as a member. Sri Lanka Cricket in particular needs to ensure that there is no government interference in governance, regulation, or administration. The terms of the suspension will be decided by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board in due course.”
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board is already facing a crisis after its poor performance in the World Cup 2023. Meanwhile, even before the mega event ends, ICC has made a big decision on SLC. This decision was taken after the recent interference of the government in Sri Lankan cricket.
After the crushing 302-run defeat at the hands of India in the World Cup, the Sri Lankan government dismissed the entire board. This decision was made by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe. ICC has not liked government interference in the board at all. After which he issued a statement saying this clearly.
Sri Lanka is already out of the current World Cup. The team has won only two out of its 9 matches in the World Cup. Whereas they have suffered defeat in 7 matches. Due to this, the Sri Lankan team remains in ninth position in the points table.
