On November 10, 2022, England made it to the final of the T20 World Cup by defeating India in the semi-finals at the Adelaide Oval. After about 16 months, on Thursday, these two teams will once again meet in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup at the Providence ground in Guyana, where the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma will aim to settle the score of that defeat.
Match: IND vs ENG, 2nd Semi-Final, Group A, World Cup,T2 0I
Date: Thursday, June 27th, 2024
Time: 8:00 pm IST
Venue: Guyana National Stadium, Guyana
In the knockout match, the Indian team will once again be seen facing Jos Buttler’s army under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. In T20 cricket, the two teams have clashed 23 times in which India has the upper hand. Team India has won 12 matches while England has tasted victory in 11 matches. At the same time, in the history of the T20 World Cup, England has faced India four times. Both the teams have won two matches each.
India has won seven out of seven matches in this World Cup, while England, the only Test-playing, has reached here by defeating West Indies.England, who finished second in the group as South Africa beat West Indies on Monday night to take the top spot, would have had to play the semi-finals in Trinidad had Australia beaten India.
India’s brilliant batting performance under the leadership of captain Rohit Sharma has laid a foundation for the match against England. Rohit repeated his selfless, aggressive batting in the 50-over World Cup, scoring 92 runs off just 41 balls. Rohit scored 28 runs in the first over of Mitchell Starc and hit a six on the first ball of Pat Cummins.
Rohit also targeted leg spinner Adam Zampa. Apart from Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dubey, and Hardik Pandya were also seen in good form. A matter of concern for India is the form of Virat Kohli, who has so far been able to score only 01, 04, 00, 24, 37 and 00 in six matches. The biggest strength for India in this tournament has been its bowling and it has at least six options in bowling. While Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh are creating trouble for the opposition batsmen with the new ball, Hardik has created a threat for the third fast bowler.
India: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma (C), Rishabh Pant, Suryarumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah
England: Jos Buttler (C), Phil Salt (wk), J Bairstow, Harry Brook, Moen Ali, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood
