IND vs SL 1st ODI Match Preview: Sri Lanka gave tough competition to India in the T20 series. On many occasions, the team was very close to victory but in the end, the Indian team won. Now it is the turn of ODI cricket. The Sri Lankan team is about to make a new beginning. They will play the first ODI against the world No. 1 Indian team in Colombo on Friday. Charith Asalanka is going to captain Sri Lanka in ODI for the first time. Earlier the command was in the hands of Kusal Mendis. This match will be played at R Premadasa Stadium from 2:30 pm.
Recently, after a laughable defeat in the last T20I, Sri Lanka also lost the series 0-3. Now preparing for the ODI, Sri Lanka has lost five of its fast bowlers due to injury and illness. After this Mohammed Shiraz and Ishan Malinga have been included in the team, where they will get the support of Asita Fernando and all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne. In the last four ODIs played between these two teams, Sri Lanka could not even reach the 100 mark thrice.
It is clear that Sri Lanka has been struggling with middle-order and lower-order problems, their recent success has come because of the top order and Pathum Nissanka has played the most important role in this. He has scored 497 runs in six ODIs, the highest in the world this year. During this period, his strike rate was also 122.41, which is the highest among the batsmen who have scored at least 200 runs. If Sri Lanka has to challenge India then they would like Nissanka’s bat to speak.
As far as India is concerned, they will take one more step towards the Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have returned and the team’s focus is on getting the right team combination. They will also expect more of a challenge in the ODI series and not the kind of challenge they faced in the T20Is. Now the action has reached Colombo from Kandy. In such a situation, the balance between the bat and the ball should also change. 300 or more runs are not often scored on this ground, because spin plays an important role here. In such a situation, Kuldeep Yadav can play an important role for India. Kuldeep will also be excited to perform on this tour.
