Sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told IANS on Tuesday that Team India cannot travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy next year. Also, the venue can be shifted, or the path of the hybrid model can also be chosen.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that if India sends its team to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy next year the PCB is ready to play a bilateral series with them.
However, BCCI sources said, “Forget bilateral series… Team India cannot even tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. There may be a change in the event venue or a hybrid model is also ‘possible’.” Sources told IANS, “The Indian board will need permission from the government for the travel, currently our relations with Pakistan are also not good. In such a situation it is almost impossible.”
India and Pakistan last played a bilateral limited-overs series in 2012–13, when Pakistan toured India. Last year, India refused to send its team to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan and ultimately, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had to adopt a hybrid model for the event, with most of the matches being held in Sri Lanka. was divided.
