BCCI has started thinking about next season’s IPL. There will be a mega auction for the IPL in the upcoming season. But how many cricketers can teams retain? There is a complication with that. BCCI wants to take a final decision in this matter after discussing with the team owners of IPL. But the meeting has also become tangled.
The board meeting with the franchise owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been postponed. It was scheduled on April 16 in Ahmedabad. But according to a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI has informed the franchise owners that due to changes in the IPL programme, the meeting has been postponed. A new date has not been announced. The agenda of the meeting has not been specified, but it is expected that the BCCI will initially take several policy decisions regarding the mega-auction scheduled for next year.
One of them is RTM, the number of cricketers retained before the auction may increase next year. There will be some big surprises, which could see the mega auction in 2025. A section of IPL owners believe that the retention numbers should be increased, arguing that the teams have established themselves sufficiently and need continuity to strengthen their brand and fan base. In fact, some have suggested the number of retained cricketers should be as high as eight.
IPL’s 10 franchises will enter the tournament with a purse of Rs 100 crore instead of Rs 90 crore for the mega auction of the 2025 tournament. The meeting between BCCI/IPL officials and franchise owners was supposed to take place on the sidelines of an IPL game between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad. But that game has been delayed by a day. As a result, the meeting will not be held on the scheduled day.
