Last December, the IPL auction went for the first time outside the country. The mini-auction was held in Dubai. This time, the auction will be held in the Middle East. This time, the BCCI has organized a ‘mega’ auction instead of a ‘mini’ auction. Ten franchises will compete against each other in the battle to build a squad at the Abadi Al-Zohar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25.
Mallika Sagar will be the auctioneer. She conducted the auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for 2023 and 2024. She has also been seen in the mini-auction of the 2024 IPL.
577 cricketers are participating in the IPL mega auction. Out of these, 367 are Indian cricketers and 210 are foreign cricketers.
A total of 204 slots are vacant across ten teams. Out of them, 70 foreign slots are vacant.
The highest base price is Rs 2 crore (81 cricketers are in this bracket), and the lowest is Rs 30 lakh.
Ten franchises announced their retention list on October 31. They have retained a total of 46 players.
KKR’s auction purse is- Rs 51 crore. They spent Rs 57 crore to retain six cricketers. They were supposed to have Rs 63 crore in their purse. But the minimum price set by the board to keep six players is Rs 69 crore. As a result, an additional Rs 12 crore has been deducted from their purse.
For the first time since 2018, the marquee players have been divided into two separate sets. The two star-studded sets will be auctioned off at the beginning. Each set has six cricketers.
