IPL 2025 Mumbai Indians Retention List: IPL 2024 was not good for Mumbai Indians in any respect. MI played 14 matches in the entire season, but the team could register only four wins. Famous batsmen like Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan could not perform consistently, due to which the team remained at the last position in the points table. Now there is to be a mega auction next year, in which as per the rules each team can retain 4 players. Although some time ago the teams had demanded to retain at least 8 players, but till now there has been no change in the rules. So let’s take a look at those four players on whom Mumbai Indians can gamble on retaining.
Rohit Sharma was removed from the post of captain of Mumbai Indians before the start of IPL 2024. In such a situation, Hardik Pandya was appointed the new captain of the team. Even though Rohit is not the captain of MI yet, it was Rohit who made MI the IPL champion 5 times under his captaincy. In IPL 2024, Rohit scored 417 runs in 14 matches and he was also the highest run scorer for MI in the season. Rohit has established his legacy within MI. His removal from Mumbai Indians will feel as if Virat Kohli is being removed from RCB or MS Dhoni is being removed from CSK. From the fans’ point of view, the MI franchise owners would hardly take the risk of releasing Rohit. Rohit currently charges a fee of Rs 16 crore for playing one season.
Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best bowlers in cricket at present. After debuting for MI in 2013, Bumrah has taken 165 wickets in 133 matches. This season he has taken wickets in 13 matches. Bumrah can be called the backbone of the Mumbai Indians team in bowling. Releasing such a world-class bowler could also prove costly for Mumbai Indians.
Like Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav’s career has also been made by Mumbai Indians. Suryakumar’s360-degree shots can change the match at any moment. He is currently in first place in the international T20 batting rankings. Suryakumar is such a player, that if he goes in the mega auction, all the teams will pounce on him because his importance in T20 cricket is very high.
When Mumbai Indians team management handed over the captaincy to Hardik Pandya for IPL 2024. It was then decided that the MI franchise was seeing its future in Pandya. Although Pandya could not take Mumbai Indians to the playoffs this time, the biggest proof of his good captaincy was that he made Gujarat Titans champion in 2022. Hardik Pandya has played 137 matches to date in his IPL career and has scored 2,525 runs, with an average of 28.69. Even after his disappointing performance both as a player and captain, MI might retain him before the auction.
