PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for Varanasi Cricket Stadium

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi on March 24 and it is expected that he will lay the foundation stones of various development projects worth Rs 1,450 crore.

The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath praised this visit of the PM as a significant event in the history of Kashi and shared the details of Modi’s agenda for the trip. He posted on X(Twitter):

Tomorrow another golden chapter is going to be added to the journey of Baba Shri Vishwanath ji’s holy city Kashi. Respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji will lay the foundation stone of ‘International Cricket Stadium’ costing approximately ₹451 crores in Varanasi tomorrow”,

Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji will inaugurate the construction of the stadium at 1.30 PM. This project has a budget of ₹451 crore. This state-of-the-art sports facility is a  part of the vision to establish contemporary, world-class sports infrastructure and this covers an expansive 30-acre area in Varanasi’s Ganjari. The stadium’s architectural design is inspired by lord Shiva, with elements such as floodlights in the shape of tridents, and roofing with crescent-shaped covers. The Uttar Pradesh government has said that they allocated approximately ₹121 crore for the land which is required for this project. The construction of the stadium will have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators and this will be funded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which will cost ₹330 crore. The ceremony is expected to be with renowned cricket figures like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, and other notable personalities. Additionally, key officials from the BCCI, including President Roger Binny, Vice President Rajiv Shukla, and Secretary Jay Shah, are anticipated to be in attendance.

The Prime Minister also dedicated 19 drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which will benefit more than 3 lakh people of 63 Gram Panchayats. He also laid the foundation stone of 59 drinking water schemes under the Mission, an integrated pack house in Karkhiyaon for grading, sorting, and processing of fruits and vegetables, and various projects under the Varanasi Smart City Mission.
