RCB VS GT IPL 14th Match Report: Buttler’s Explosive Knock Powers Gujarat Titans to 8-Wicket Win Over RCB!

In a thrilling IPL clash at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, Gujarat Titans (GT) chased down a modest target of 170 with 13 balls to spare, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 wickets. Jos Buttler played a pivotal role, smashing an unbeaten 73 off 39 balls to anchor the chase, while Sai Sudharsan (49 off 36) and Sherfane Rutherford (30* off 18) gave solid support. GT’s clinical performance in both departments put them on top, while RCB’s underwhelming total and inconsistent bowling allowed the visitors to cruise to victory.

Scorecard

RCB      159/8(20.0)

GT        170/2(17.5)

Match Report

RCB’s batting struggled to gain momentum against a disciplined Gujarat bowling attack. Opting to bat first, the hosts were quickly under pressure as GT’s bowlers made early breakthroughs. Mohammed Siraj gave RCB some hope with his fiery spell, claiming two wickets during the powerplay, including the crucial scalp of Virat Kohli for just 7 runs.

Despite the early setbacks, Liam Livingstone led the recovery for RCB. The English all-rounder showed his class, blasting 54 off 40 balls. His innings included three sixes and four boundaries, and he was the glue that kept RCB’s innings together. However, the middle-order crumbled around him, with Krunal Pandya (5), Dinesh Karthik (8), and Glenn Maxwell (10) failing to make any impact.

RCB eventually posted a total of 169/8, which, on a good batting surface, seemed far from competitive. With Siraj’s initial breakthroughs, it looked like RCB could set a strong foundation, but they couldn’t capitalize, leaving too much to be done for the lower order.

Chasing 170, Gujarat Titans started cautiously, but the partnership between Buttler and Sudharsan was the highlight. Sudharsan provided solid support, contributing 49 runs off 36 balls, including six crisp boundaries. Together, they formed a crucial 75-run stand for the second wicket, putting GT firmly on track to chase down the target.

Buttler, however, was the real star of the chase. His quickfire 73* off 39 balls featured five boundaries and three sixes, including some brutal hits off RCB’s bowling attack. Buttler’s ability to attack at the right moments turned the game in GT’s favor, especially when they needed to accelerate in the latter stages.

Sherfane Rutherford (30* off 18) joined Buttler to seal the game with a composed finish, hitting the winning runs with a six over mid-wicket in the 18th over. With the match wrapped up in just 17.5 overs, it was a comprehensive win for GT.
