The IPL Governing Council announced the player retention policy on 28 September regarding the mega player auction to be held for the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be played in the year 2025. This time a total of 8 rules have been announced by the Governing Council, in which all the franchises can retain the maximum number of players before the auction, in addition to how much their purse has been increased. At the same time, an old rule Right to Match i.e. RTM has returned, we are going to tell you how a franchise can use it at the time of player auction.
The Right to Match rule was first implemented during the mega player auction held in the year 2018. In this, if a team is unable to retain any of its players before the auction, then in that case, at the time of the auction, it will get a chance to get them back in its team again, but for this, during that time, any other franchise would have bid for that player, they can include him in that amount. This price can be more or less than the previous price of that player.
For example, suppose Mumbai Indians are unable to retain Ishan Kishan before the mega player auction and the Punjab Kings team buys him at the time of the auction, then in such a situation, Mumbai will have a chance to use the RTM card so that it can make Ishan a part of its team again. However, during this time, Mumbai will have to spend the same amount from its purse for whatever bid Punjab Kings would have placed for Ishan.
According to the new retention rules issued by the IPL Governing Council, if a franchise decides to include 6 players, including 5 capped and one uncapped, then it will not get a chance to use a single RTM at the time of the mega player auction. In the rules that came this time, it has been made clear that the maximum number of Indian and foreign players can be chosen from the 6 players.
