Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are currently experienced stars of Indian cricket who have reached heights in their international careers. Both are at the end of their careers. But till now there is no assurance about their replacement. Some assurances from some of the younger players. But their lack does not seem to be completely complete. On the tour of South Africa, Kohli once again proved that he is the best Test Indian batsman currently and will be a part of their setup in at least two longer formats for some time to come.
KL Rahul may have scored half-centuries on South Africa’s challenging bouncy pitches, but Virat is the most comfortable of the visiting batsmen. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that the team should be thankful that they have someone of Kohli’s caliber.
Virat will play Tests as long as he wants
“There is no doubt that Virat Kohli will play (Test cricket) as long as he can and thank God for India, we have Virat Kohli,” Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo. “He has shown in this series what kind of challenges batsmen face and his And there is a huge gap between India’s next best Test batsman, at least until Rishabh Pant comes back.”
Manjrekar also opened up about Rohit
Asked about Rohit’s future, Manjrekar said it was up to the great to decide the length of his remaining career. But added that there is no competition to replace him. Manjrekar said, “Rohit Sharma will be one person who will tell us through his work how much he wants to play Test cricket. They (Rohit and Kohli) are still old-fashioned batsmen. All newcomers have to adapt to Test cricket. If Rohit Sharma wants to take his Test career forward, that’s up to him, no competition.”
The 3-match T20 series between India and Afghanistan will start on January 11. And BCCI announced the swing for this series. Rohit-Virat returned to the T20 team after a long time.
