ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has started. Cricket started auspiciously at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Gujarat. However, Team India is yet to play their first match in the World Cup. The Indian team is going to play their first World Cup match against Australia on October 8. The two teams recently played a series against each other, where Team India defeated Australia by a margin of 2-1. Shubman Gill was the hero of India’s win. The young batsman got the chance to play the first two matches of the series.
India’s World Cup campaign suffered a major setback before it even started. The team’s opener Shubman Gill was suffering from fever for several days. Giller was diagnosed with dengue after testing. According to sources, he did not even come to practice at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Friday. Gill is sick and hospitalized, and was even given a drip on Friday. Gill has reportedly been ruled out of the opener against Australia on Sunday, but coach Rahul Dravid has given an update on his chances of playing, saying Gill has yet to be ruled out of the opening match of the World Cup.
Due to dengue, Gill may miss 1 to 2 matches of the World Cup. Team India will be under a lot of pressure in such a situation, although Gill was in great form before this World Cup. Currently the second-best batsman in the world. However, if Gill does not play in the team, Ishan Kishan will be seen opening with captain Rohit Sharma. It is even clear that Ishaan will be seen in the upcoming World Cup opening match. He is working very hard during batting practice at the nets.
