The Indian team is going to start its campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday. Team India’s first match will be played against Australia at Chepauk ground in Chennai. This will be the first match of India as well as Australia. Before this match, Shubman Gill’s health remained a matter of concern for the Indian team. Yes, Shubman Gill has been found dengue positive and there is suspense over his playing in tomorrow’s match. On Saturday, captain Rohit Sharma gave an update on Gill’s health.
In the pre-match press conference, Rohit Sharma said, “Shubman Gill is not well, but we are not considering him out right now, because he is being given full opportunity to become fit by tomorrow (Sunday).” Rohit Sharma also said, “Not as a captain but as a responsible person, I want him to recover completely and I hope that he will recover completely.” Let us tell you that before Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid had also said on Friday that we will wait till the morning of the match for Gill.
Coach Rahul Dravid Gives An Update Of Shubhman Gill. He said, “Shubman is feeling good (Friday). The medical team is monitoring him and his condition is improving.” Dravid is known for not rushing players. He did not reveal anything and said “Gill is technically not out of the first match. The medical team is monitoring him and will make a decision based on that. But this situation will not improve very soon. Gill is not well and not fit to play at least the first two matches (of the World Cup).”
Earlier, the BCCI had said that they were awaiting an update on Gill. BCCI’s medical update said, “Gill is unwell, the medical team is monitoring him closely. We are hopeful that he will recover soon. We have to wait for further updates from the medical team.”
Rohit Sharma further said that Gill’s condition is not a matter of concern at the moment, but we want him to recover and play tomorrow’s (Sunday) match. Rohit Sharma said that he is a young boy and he will recover soon. From Rohit Sharma’s words, it can be inferred that Gill will not be fully fit against Australia and will have to sit out. Shubhman Gill is currently under the complete supervision of the medical team.
There is suspense over Shubman Gill’s play, but if Gill sits out, then Ishan Kishan will be Rohit Sharma’s partner as opener in his place. Whereas in the middle order, Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar Yadav may get a chance in place of Ishan. There is also information about Gill that considering his health, he may sit out of the match not only against Australia but also against Afghanistan.
