A day after trading Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans have appointed Shubman Gill as the captain. Hardik captained Gujarat in 2022 and 2023 and the 2024 season will see Shubman captaining the IPL for the first time.
Shubman said in a statement, “I am very happy and proud to be the captain of Gujarat and want to thank the franchise for the confidence they have shown in it. It has been a great two seasons for us and I am looking forward to playing the same kind of cricket in the upcoming season.” “Excited for.”
Shubhman, 24, started his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 and was released ahead of the 2022 auction. As a new franchise, Gujarat had to select three players before the 2022 auction, in which they bought Shubman for Rs 7 crore. Apart from this, he had bought Hardik and Rashid Khan for Rs 15 crore each.
Shubman scored 483 runs in 16 matches in IPL 2022 and became the team’s top run scorer, which included an unbeaten 45 in the title win against Rajasthan Royals. In 2023 also, he was the top run scorer of the team, in which he scored 890 runs including three centuries in 17 innings.
Shubhman is in the top five in terms of scoring most runs in the last six years, ahead of him are KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, and Faf du Plessis. Shubman will captain a strong team that has experienced players like Kane Williamson, Rashid, David Miller, Matthew Wade, and Wriddhiman Saha. He has captaincy experience in domestic cricket, having captained in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy.
Gujarat Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki said, “Shubman Gill has grown well in the last two years and has reached the top of the game. He has matured not only as a batsman but also as a leader. His presence on the field has helped Gujarat “We have grown stronger and delivered great performances in 2022, and 2023.
