Like every year, this season too the bowling of Royal Challengers Bengaluru looks ordinary. Even though the team has many hitters including Virat Kohli, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell, the bowling department still looks weak. Living proof of this was seen in the team’s match played against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) when the fast bowling trio of Mohammad Siraj, Yash Dayal, and Alzarri Joseph completely failed.
Batting first, RCB put 182 runs on the board thanks to the innings of Kohli (84), but when the RCB bowlers came out to defend the runs, they were beaten badly. The situation was such that Kolkata scored 186 runs after losing 3 wickets in 16.5 overs and won the match by 7 wickets. Almost all the bowlers of RCB proved to be very expensive. While Siraj lost 46 runs in 3 overs, Dayal also lost 46 runs in his spell of 4 overs. Apart from these two, Joseph was hit for 34 runs in 2 overs. At the same time, seeing the poor performance of Bengaluru bowlers against Kolkata, former England fast bowler Stuart Broad got angry and gave big advice to this team.
Fast bowler Broad believes that if they do not solve the problems of their bowling unit, then there will be more problems for RCB in the future. He said, “RCB bowlers bowled short and their balls were predictable. This is the problem with RCB. I think their batting has been strong over the years, and they’ve got star power there, but their bowling unit hasn’t been able to sustain and win them matches. “They seem to be a bit of an unbalanced team.”
Broad says that RCB bowlers did not use variations at all. He said that while KKR bowlers were using cutters and slow balls, which made it difficult for Virat Kohli, one of the best batsmen ever, to time them, Bengaluru bowlers were bowling very fast balls. Due to this, he had to suffer the consequences in the form of sixes and fours.
