Match report

After losing the toss and opting to bat first, Oman’s team was limited to only 109 runs in 19.4 overs. From their side, only Khalid Kel (34) and Zeeshan Maqsood (22) were able to put up some fight. For Namibia, their strike bowler Ruben Trumpelman took four wickets, while Visa also took three wickets. While Trumpelman did wonders with the new ball and shook Oman’s roots by taking two consecutive wickets on the first two balls of the innings, Visa took wickets in the death overs. In the middle overs, off-spin all-rounder Erard Erasmus also took two wickets with his spin to make Oman’s batsmen dance.

However, while chasing the easy target of 110 runs, Namibia seemed to be struggling. Like Oman, they too suffered a blow in the first over of the innings, when their opening batsman Michael van Lingen was out in the pavilion on the very second ball with a score of zero. Nicholas Devlin (24) and Yann Frylink (45) added 42 runs for the second wicket in 8.1 overs and then it seemed that Namibia would easily reach the target. But Oman’s bowlers made a comeback and made the match exciting.

For Oman, right-arm medium pacer Mehran Khan impressed the most, taking three wickets in the death overs. Namibia needed only five runs in the last over, but Mehran gave away only four runs while taking two wickets, taking the match to the Super Over. However, Namibia overpowered Oman in the Super Over. Dropping three easy catches by Oman’s fielders during Namibia’s innings also proved costly for them.
