The host country West Indies has announced its 15-member team for the ICC T20 World Cup tournament 2024 on May 3, in which Rovman Powell will be seen handling the responsibility of captaincy. Fast bowler Shamar Joseph has also been included in this team and the return of Shimron Hetmyer has been seen. The Windies team has got a place in Group C in the T20 World Cup, in which it will play its first match against the Papua New Guinea team on June 2.
If we talk about the West Indies team announced for the T20 World Cup, then while the captaincy will be on the shoulders of Rovman Powell, the team has seen the return of Shimron Hetmyer, who played against West Indies during the T20 series played at home against England. Didn’t get a place in the team. Apart from this, fast bowler Shamar Joseph, who played an important role with the ball in the West Indies victory in the Test match played at Gabba ground during the Australia tour, has been included in the West Indies T20 team for the first time.
Team head coach Darren Sammy said that Sunil Narine was also asked to join this team, but he refused to come out of retirement. Sunil Narine retired from international cricket last year. Team captain Rovman Powell had recently said that Narine should return from retirement and play for West Indies. Even then Sunil Narine had said that he wants the youth to play now and make the team win.
