The year 2024 is proving to be the year of retirement of legendary players of Bangladesh cricket. After former captain Shakib Al Hasan, now batsman Mahmudullah has also announced his retirement from T20 format. He will say goodbye to the shortest format with the last match of the ongoing series against India. The match will be played in Hyderabad on 12th October.
Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder Mahmudullah on Tuesday announced his retirement from T20 Internationals and the third and final match of the ongoing series against India will be his last match in the format. The last match of the three-match series between India and Bangladesh will be played in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Mahmudullah said on the second T20 International match against India, ‘Yes, I am retiring from T20 after the last match of this series. This was already decided. This is the right time to move on from this format and focus on ODIs.’
The 38-year-old player has played 50 Tests, 232 ODIs and 139 T20 Internationals for Bangladesh since making his debut in 2007. This former Bangladesh T-20 captain said goodbye to his Test career in 2021. Mahmudullah has scored 2,395 runs and taken 40 wickets in 139 T20I matches at a strike-rate of 117.74.
