The world is busy with IPL 2025, but now there is also a big update from the Women’s Premier League (WPL) as November 7 is the deadline for all five franchises to submit their retention lists to the BCCI.
According to the report by FemaleCricket, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriors, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants will have to submit the retention by November 7.
WPL retention period extended till 7th November
It is noteworthy that earlier the last date for all the teams was 15 October, but it was extended to 7 November. Royal Challengers Bangalore are the defending champions. Each team can have a squad of 18 members, which can include six foreign players. BCCI will conduct mini auctions based on retention, but there is no clarity on when the auction will take place.
Unlike the IPL, the auction amount for the third season is Rs 15 crore, which was Rs 12 crore in the first season and Rs 13.5 crore in the season before that.
Big change in window for WPL
Another big change is that the Future Tour Program (FTP) will now include a window for franchise leagues. India’s biggest T20 tournament Women’s Premier League (WPL) will start in January instead of February from 2026. In exchange, the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) will be pushed back to February 2026.
