Wriddhiman Saha to Rejoin Bengal Team for Upcoming Domestic Season

Wriddhiman Saha is set to return to Bengal for the upcoming domestic season and will also be a part of the first edition of the Bengal Pro T20 League, starting on Tuesday. Saha, who played for Bengal for almost 15 years since making his debut in 2007, has joined Tripura as a player-cum-mentor ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Wriddhiman is back in the Bengal clan after 15 years!

Hurt by comments made by a senior administrator ahead of the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy semi-finals, Saha had sought a no-objection certificate. After spending two years in Tripura, he has returned to Bengal again.

Saha’s name was not in the initial draft of the Bengal Pro T20 League, but he has been included by Rashmi Medinipur Wizards as a replacement for the injured Abhimanyu Easwaran. This team will be captained by Sudip Chatterjee and fast bowler Ishan Porel will also be a part of it. Bengal Cricket Association President Snehasish Ganguly said, “We are happy to have Wriddhiman return to Bengal. His desire to play in the Bengal Pro T20 League has added glamor to the league.”

Wriddhiman’s career by far

39-year-old Wriddhiman Saha has so far scored 7013 runs in 136 first-class matches at an average of around 42. During this period he scored 14 centuries and 43 half-centuries. This also includes 1353 runs scored for India in 40 Tests at an average of 29.41. Saha was bought by Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 and he became champion in the first season of the team itself. However, his performance in IPL 2024 was disappointing and he could score only 136 runs in nine innings at an average of 15.11.
