On a tense Sunday afternoon, the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport found itself at the center of a chilling scenario when an anonymous email dropped a bomb threat. The message, laden with fear, hinted at the presence of an explosive device within the airport premises, immediately putting authorities on high alert!
In an unsettling coincidence, similar emails landed in the inboxes of two government hospitals: Burari Government Hospital and Mangolpuri’s Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, stirring panic among staff and patients alike. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North, Manoj Meena, confirmed the receipt of these threats, prompting swift action from Delhi Police and Fire Services Department teams. The situation took a darker turn as five more government hospitals reported receiving identical threats later that evening. Dada Dev Hospital in Dabri, Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital in Hari Nagar, Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Dilshad Garden, Hindu Rao Hospital in Malka Ganj, and Aruna Asaf Ali Govt Hospital of Rajpur Road were all caught in the crosshairs of uncertainty.
Dr. SK Kaakraan, Medical Superintendent at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, recounted the tense moments as police and bomb squad teams meticulously combed through the premises. Thankfully, their thorough search yielded no explosives, but investigations continue both internally and by law enforcement agencies. These alarming incidents follow closely on the heels of a wave of bomb threats targeted at multiple schools in Delhi-NCR just two weeks prior. A staggering 131 schools received menacing emails on May 1st, prompting widespread concern and heightened security measures. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) later dismissed the threats as ‘hoax’ in an official statement, but the lingering unease underscores the fragility of peace in the capital region.
As authorities dives into the origins of these threats and fortify security measures, the incidents serve as stark reminders of the delicate balance between vigilance and tranquility in a world fraught with uncertainty.
